Exotic Costa Rican Fruits

Costa Rica is a paradise for fruits lovers because its variety is as wide as its flora and fauna diversity. In fact, you can find more than 150 different species of fruits around the country, including from popular bananas to exotics fruits that aren’t very common internationally like cas, soursop and wild berries.

Most of these tropical fruits are from Central America and you only can taste them in that zone. Others have started being exported to different countries all around the world because of their exotic taste and excellent quality like pineapple, papaya and mango.

A very traditional dessert of our country is fruits salad, a recipe that mixes diced pineapple, watermelon, melon and banana. Shakes or beverages based on fruits are very popular too, and they become a different and refreshing way to enjoy them.

La Choza de Laurel offers to the visitors most of these flavors that you can only get in Costa Rican tropical fruits. For example, the fruit salad is one of our specialties and its presentation is very special, because it is served using the pineapple as a bowl and adding ice creams and jelly to the diced fruits. Also, we offer the “banana split”: we take a banana to combine it with ice creams, chantilly cream and granola.

Pineapple is one of the products that Costa Rica exports in big amount and we use it to prepare our singular “piña colada”. We take advantage of the complete fruit to offer a unique and special presentation that our visitors really enjoy.

Our menu also includes a great variety of shakes using pineapple, watermelon, melon, soursop, mango, cas, wild berries, papaya and others. This shakes can be made with water or milk.

And as part of our goal of offering the most typical dishes of our gastronomy, we have incorporated to our menu the “papaya picadillo”, a preparation where we use green chopped papaya to combine it with other traditional ingredients.

So, if you want to taste new flavors and textures through the different fruits that our country offers, visit La Choza de Laurel en la Fortuna or Liberia to learn about the traditions and typical flavors of our culture.
